What is Labor Day? A little history…
Thanks to the Industrial Age we now celebrate Labor Day the first Monday of September. This also notes the end of Summer but why do we even have this Holiday?
With the invention of the railroad, cotton gin and electricity our society was forever changed. Moving further away from the family structure of farming. Manufacturing created news jobs which required a huge a labor force. Americans as young as five were once working in very unsafe conditions and paid a fraction of their adult co-workers. In the late 1800’s unions were created to bring help to harsh working conditions. In 1894 Labor Day became an annual event to celebrate workers and their achievements.
